P130 Race winner Kent Howerton was pictured from Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago, despite Tony DiStefano wrapping up the AMA 250cc Motocross National Championship, ending Gary Jones' three-year reign. It was DiStefano and Suzuki's first AMA Motocross Championships... We had coverage of the SCORE Internacional 400. Gary Standridge and teammate Jim Ellis were the initial winners before getting DQ'd for missing multiple checkpoints. The Harley- Davidson Bruce Ogilvie and Larry Roeseler duo was declared the winner... Jay Springsteen won the Delaware Half-Mile. Our Yamaha XJ700N Maxim was pictured on the cover 40 years ago... Mike Baldwin dominated the AMA GNC/Camel Pro Series at Loudon... We had race coverage of the AMA Motocross Championship from Lakewood, Colorado. Ron Lechien (125cc), Jeƒ Ward (250cc) and Broc Glover (500cc) were the day's winners... The Scot Harden and Kurt Pfeiƒer duo won the Baja 500... Honda's Andre Malherbe went 1-1 at the 500cc MX Grand Prix in Spain... The U.S. hosted a round of the World Championship Trial Series in Rhode Island. Frenchman Thierry Michaud won.
