Tomac, followed Jett through the pack while in the lead group. Tomac started outside the top five but put himself into sec- ond at the halfway mark and made an attempt for the lead. With only a few minutes left on the clock, he dove into a rut, which gave way, putting him on the ground. He remounted in second, but it was too late to rally a comeback. Tomac is now second in the standings, 25 back from Jett Lawrence and two points ahead of Plessinger. "I was pretty close to Jett and thought I had a really good line but got a little excited and dumped it over," Tomac said. "It's tough to make that mistake again, but it is what it is. Jett's riding well, and we'll try again next weekend." Plessinger delivered another impressive ride, securing third place overall. The Factory Red Bull KTM rider has demon - strated that his early sprint race speed is among the best, and the number seven found himself leading the pack again in race one. He traded positions with Hunter Lawrence before gaining a second wind and attempting to take the lead late in the race. Plessinger launched an attack on Jett and briefly held the lead before dropping back to second. "I had some good lines, and I think I should've been a little more patient and waited until the last lap to make the pass," Plessinger said. "When I made the pass, he figured out all my lines and all my secrets, and he went right back by me." The FXR/Club MX/ Muc- Off Yamaha rider shot out to the holeshot in the second moto and led the opening lap before a crash dropped him back to 20th. It was a confidence booster for the Delaware native. MARTIN OUT, MINEAR IN The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team saw their return- ing veteran, Jeremy Martin, sit out after crashing at round two. With his bike idle, they en- listed amateur standout Kayden Minear, who had just won at the SMX Next Motocross Combine the previous week. His 18-12 results saw the rookie score points in both motos and finish 16th overall. Martin will again sit out the upcoming High Point National and is expected to race one last time at his home track at Spring Creek. Briefly... (Left) Eli Tomac was on the hunt in both motos. Unfortunately for him, he fell late in the second moto while challenging Lawrence. (Below) Aaron Plessinger has been showing a lot of speed lately. At one point, he passed Lawrence for the lead.
