Cooper Webb finished second, but don't sound the
alarms just yet. With a 15-point cushion at the start
of the night, Webb didn't exactly need to win. The
points leader kept it cool in second place every time
he hit the track. He was the second-fastest qualifier,
he was second in the heat, and he was second in the
main event. Webb got off to a wild start and nearly
got caught up in a turn-one multi-rider crash. He fol
-
lowed Sexton through the field in the opening laps as
the championship duo passed their
way to the front.
"I knew if he got around Kenny, he was going to
try and really throw down some good laps, and that's
exactly what he did," Webb said. "It was a barnburner.
We battled back the whole time. We both got caught
up in that first turn. He got going in front of me, and
we were coming through the pack together. He was
able to charge through; I was coming with [Sexton]
and just hoping I could pass guys just as fast as he
did. And I did until we got to Kenny. He got around
Kenny and put in two or three sprint laps and kind of
dictated the race. I had a bad line in one corner, and it
was killing me. I should have caught up on that first,
