Procida ADELANTO, CA, SEPT. 20 Gary Dudley put his Yoko/Smith-sponsored Kawasaki KX250 into the winner's circle twice as he elected to run both the California Racing Club's Vet Intermediate class and the District 37 Desert Vet Intermediate class at Sunrise Cycle Park. In moto one with the CRC Vets, Jere Mason put his Yamaha into turn one ahead of the rest of the class with Dudley, Duke Loppnow and Randy Anderson vying for the number two slot. Dudley grabbed the second slot as he jumped the big tabletop jump in traffic and edged ahead of the pack. Loppnow was now being challenged by Anderson. Back a short distance was Charlie Strong who had gone down hard in turn one, but was now up and charging hard. Scott Curtis was the first to be passed by Strong, who flew by and was soon catching the front five. At the front of that group was Mason, but now he had company in the form of Dudley. The two riders were both clearing the double, but it was Dudley getting a better drive coming off the step-down jump to take the lead late in the moto. Mason stayed with him but never got a chance for a repass and had to settle for second. Moto two saw Dudley and Mason dicing for the lead until Mason got crossed up in the whoop section and cart-wheeled in a big way. Fortunately, everyone avoided him but it would be a lap before he got back underway. Up at the front, Strong was challenging Dudley for the lead and stuck a tire on the inside line at every chance. Loppnow was observing all the action from third, but was also holding off a hard charging Scott Curtis. Strong powered by Dudley in the back section of the track, only to have Dudley double his way back into the lead. The race for the lead remained tight with Strong pulling alongside of Dudley on every straight, only to be denied the lead again and again. On the last lap, Strong backed off and gave Dudley the moto and overall win with Loppnow, David Williams and Curtis round ing out the top five slots. When the overalls were tallied it was Dudley, Loppnow and Strong at the victory podium. With the District 37 classes becoming a regular at CRC races more and more of the desert racers are trying their skills on a motocross course. Putting on a good race on the twisty track, were 250cc Experts Tim Winslow, Jason Trubey and Tom Hendricks, but when the dust settled it was the same three, 1,2,3. Results p/w A: 1.
