style rut and missed the timing in the following rhythm lane. Webb wanted the win but in- stead earned five critical points over his nearest championship threat, Chase Sexton, who fin- ished fifth. Webb now leads the series by 10 points as the series crosses its halfway mark. "I put myself in an awesome position," Webb said. "You can't make mistakes, as many as I did, and expect to win. I'm a little bit bummed. Kenny rode great. He was charging through, he got around me, he made the pass stick on AP, and he pulled away. That put the urgency on pull it off. I've been pretty far from getting a win here, but to finally pull it off is a dream come true." Webb took second and, more importantly for him, gained valuable championship points. The series leader looked strong all night and followed Roczen's path to the front as the two navi - gated past Jason Anderson and Plessinger. He continued to ap- ply pressure on Roczen for most of the main event, but a series of mistakes forced Webb's hand. A major error came when he nearly tucked the front end of his Yamaha in a deep Daytona- P74 SMX NEXT The second round of SMX Next took to the track in Daytona as the next generation of racers got a taste of the pro ranks. Club MX Yamaha's Alexander Fedortsov was leading before pulling off with what appeared to be a flat rear tire. This opened the door for Team Green Kawasaki's Landen Gordon to make it two SMX Next wins in a row. Enzo Temmerman was second and Jesson Turner third. "The [Daytona] fans are—it's insane—and I truly have no words," said Gordon, who was thrilled to get the win. "I'm just trying to soak it all in. I was a little fortunate there that Fedortsov's bike malfunc- tioned, but I'll take it how I can get it. I'm super pumped on my bike and my team. All the hard work we've put in—my dad, my mom, my family watching back home—yeah, I'm just going to soak it in. That was awesome." RED FLAG There have been three red flags in the 250SX East Coast main events this year. This time it was thrown due to Levi Kitchen crash- ing over the bars on the front straightaway while he was chasing RJ Hampshire for the top spot. McADOO, KITCHEN INJURY UPDATE After qualifying earlier in the day, Cameron McAdoo chose not to line up for the 250SX East main event. "Unfortunately, my knee just wasn't strong enough today to safely race," said McAdoo. "My safety—and that of the other rid- ers—comes first.
