We ran a photo of A.C. Bakken on the cover of Cycle News 50 years
ago while competing in the 20 Mule Team 200 in the snow of the
California High Desert. Bakken teamed with Mitch Mayes to take
the win... Rick Shirey was the overall winner at the DRA desert race
in California City, California... We had coverage of the River Bottom
GP from Tempe, Arizona... The Laverda 750 SF2 was our first test
bike of the new year... We showed you the new Montesa "VR"
Scorpion enduro bike.

LOOKING BACK I
Two-time AMA National Enduro Champion Terry Cunningham
was pictured on the cover 40 years ago. We talked about his
comeback from injury that led to his 1984 title... The CMC Golden
State Nationals got underway in Madera, California. Erik Kehoe,
Ron Lechien and Broc Glover were the big winners... We ran our
coverage of the Florida Winter Olympics, where Hank Moree was the
top rider... Harley-Davidson announced it was pulling out of racing,
leaving Randy Goss, Scott Parker and Jay Springsteen without a
factory ride for 1985.
