Our feature race coverage was the AMA National Road Race from
Ontario International Speedway in California. Gene Romero won the
200-miler held in two 100-mile segments scored separately.... The
Trans-AMA Motocross Series got underway at Unadilla, where Roger
DeCoster threw the first punch... Don Vesco became the newest
fastest man alive on two wheels when he rode a twin-engine Yamaha
TZ700 to a two-way average speed of 281.702 mph at Bonneville. The
previous record was 265.492 by Cal Rayborn four years earlier.

LOOKING BACK I
The talk of the town 30 years ago was the unveiling of the all-new
1985 Suzuki GSX-R750 that we pictured on the cover. We also
pictured the first single-shock production Husqvarna... Bubba
Shobert won the Sacramento Mile, keeping his title hopes alive
with only the Springfield Mile left on the GNC schedule... The CMC
Trans-Cal Series was in full swing. Johnny O'Mara, Eric Eaton, and
Mike Fisher were the Pro-class winners at Hollister... Kelly Moran
defended his AMA U.S. Speedway number-one plate at Costa Mesa.
