We reviewed the year in AMA motocross 40 years ago... Scott
Parker stretched his championship lead to five over Chris Carr
after winning the Sacramento Mile. Only two rounds remained...
Mick Doohan won the Argentine Grand Prix, with two Cagiva-
mounted riders, Doug Chandler and John Kocinski, finishing right
behind him... Scott Russell and Carl Fogarty traded race wins
at the Mugello round of the World Superbike Championship... We
reported that Colin Edwards would compete in the 1995 World
Superbike Series on a Yamaha.
Suzuki-mounted Ricky Carmichael was pictured on the cover
of Cycle News 20 years ago. We interviewed the champ after
his team change from Honda (after his perfect season) to
Makita Suzuki... We reported that three-time Dakar winner
and French star Richard Sainct had perished following a
crash during the Pharaohs Rally in Egypt... Doug Henry
won the AMA Supermoto round held in downtown Reno...
Stefan Everts, Kevin Strijbos and Steve Ramon won the
Chamberlain Trophy for Belgium at the Motocross of Nations.
The U.S. did not send a team that year.
