2025 Yamaha YZF-R1 Gets Its Wings
T
he Yamaha R1 may be dis-
continued in Europe but is
still being pumped out for select
markets, including the USA.
While not massive in changes
compared to the 2024 models,
the R1 and R1M get once crucial
updates that riders have been
complaining about for what
seems like forever. Both bikes
will now gain Brembo Stylema
four-piston radial-mount front
brake calipers and a Brembo
master cylinder. Yamaha has
done away with the four-piston
brakes that have been an R1
weak point since the 2015
edition made its debut, finally
bringing the R1 to similar levels
that the Euro bikes have enjoyed
for years.
The R1 is also getting wing
-
lets. Yamaha was the last hold-
out of the traditional bodywork
shape—sans winglets—but has
now joined the aerodynamic
party with a similar design to the
winglets used on Fabio Quar-
tararo's M1.
Aside from that, the R1 and
R1M are the same as before
with its 998cc CP4 crossplane
crank motor that debuted back
in 2015. The base R1 runs
43mm KYB conventionally
adjustable suspension, while
the R1 gets the Ohlins Dynamic
Electronic Racing Suspension
(ERS).
The 2025 Yamaha YZF-R1 will
be available in Team Yamaha
Blue or Matte Raven Black and
will begin arriving at dealers in
November for $18,999. The Ya
-
maha YZF-R1M will be available
with full carbon-fiber bodywork
and will begin arriving at dealers
in March for $27,699.
