Mirroring his efforts as a Parts Unlim-
ited AFT Singles rookie a year ago,
GOMR's Declan Bender has come on
strong down the stretch. "We started
out like a normal day, ninth or 10th,
but in the last qualifying session we
were fifth, so we knew we had pretty
good pace today," Bender said. "I ran
up front in the heat but got a bad start
in the main event. We need to go
back to the drawing board on those.
We ended up falling back to 11th or
12th but worked my way up to fourth—
best result of the season so far. If we
could have gotten a good start, we
could have done even better."
