neuver his way toward the front.
And
that line worked in every
case until he attempted to em-
ploy it to take control of the lead.
Robinson's
bid triggered
Beach's aforementioned strat-
egy; waiting until that moment
to
move up the track himself.
Mees countered by peeking
up the inside, which Beach
deflected by staying high over
the race's first two corners but
dipping back down low over its
second two turns.
That strategy proved remark-
ably sound. Beach first broke
Robinson's
challenge and then
did the same to Mees, opening
up just enough breathing space
was ready to execute when in
that position.

early going (well, other than Bau-
man's KTM 790 Duke), a flavor
that only increased
as Bauman
began to fade down the order.
But before long, the fight for
first included just Beach, Mees

dirt-track rust he had accumu-
lated after more than 10 months
off
the bike was shaken free by
the jump at Peoria, as Beach
was even stronger in his follow-
up (and somewhat surprise)
entry at Black Hills Speedway.
After running fifth or lower
throughout the day's practice and
qualifying, Beach came home
second to reigning Mission AFT
SuperTwins champ Jared Mees
in his heat. He then signaled
his true intentions with an ag-
gressive victory in the Mission
