but salvaged a podium result
at the checkers. Hunter's 2-3
scores earned him third overall
for the day.
"When you're 27 minutes into
the moto, no one cares about
[the points lead]," he said. "I'm
trying to race forward, and if
you saw how many moments I
had, it's safe to say I was giving
it my all. I was going for it. I
passed both the boys and was
trying to break out. I had five or
six big moments… just getting
fatigued."
Justin Cooper went 5-6 for
fourth on the day, just ahead of
Dylan Ferrandis' 7-5 to round out
the top five overall. Aaron Pless-
inger set a strong pace in both
motos, but a goggle issue forced
him to pit in race one. His 12-4
finishes earned him sixth overall,
beating out Justin Barcia and
Phil Nicoletti. Two international
racers, Harri Kullas of Estonia
and Kyle Webster of Australia,
rounded out the top 10.
and jumped to the lead early in
race two. He passed Jett for the
top spot and led the first half of
the race. For the midportion of
the moto, it looked to be Hunt
-
er's all the way, as Jett stayed
close and the two gapped Sex-
ton. However, things unraveled
in the closing stages of the race
for Hunter as the pace began
to wear on the older of the two
started to get a flow late in the
second moto; better late than
never. I started picking some
different lines, and it all came
together for me. I put a charge
in and felt strong."
Hunter Lawrence continued to
shine in his rookie 450MX sea
-
son as he left Southwick with
the red plate. The Honda rider
started up front in both motos

and needed medical attention.
He later said, "I [had] a bad start,
then unfortunately got tagged
by another rider as I went down
and was run over. I spent some
time in the medical unit, but I am
happy to be healthy, so we will
see the neurologist this week
and see if we're able to race next
weekend."

Hunter Lawrence (96) led laps
again, but had no wins. However,
he retains the red plate.
