"After last year, the narrative
was I couldn't ride a sand track.
I had to come here and show
everyone I could. And it was a
big motivator; I knew if I could
win here, then I'm pretty much

win, extending his points lead.
"I had to prove a point when
I came here," Deegan said.

Last year, Southwick proved to
be one of the most challenging
races for Haiden Deegan, as he
finished off the box in both mo-
tos. Things could not have been
any more different this time, as
Deegan proved to be the man to
beat in the sand. The Star Racing
Yamaha standout holeshotted
race one and made things look
easy as he led from start to finish
for the win. Moto two started
the same way, but a fall on lap
three caused him to throw the
lead away. The mistake dropped
Deegan off the box, but a valiant
effort saw him claw back to the
podium in the closing stages of
the race. He challenged for the
win with two laps to go and even-
tually took second after his rival,
Haiden Deegan (38)
showed that he could
win in the sand. He
went 1-2 for the overall
250MX victory.
