when he's trying to pass you."
After Webb's misfortune,
Chase Sexton inherited third
place, nabbing the final spot on
the podium. In his debut ride
with the Red Bull KTM team, the
defending champion started
strong but lost the tow from the
front three during the middle
portion of the race. He rode a
quiet fourth for most of the race
as he continued to adjust to the
new KTM. Webb hitting the dirt
was all Sexton needed to capi
-
talize, and that allowed the KTM
rider to slide into third place.
Sexton, who is looking for con-
sistency as he aims to defend
the number-one plate, seemed
content with third.
"I knew coming in that I
wouldn't be where I want to be,"
he stalked Lawrence for all 20
laps, while also coming under
fire from Monster Energy Star
Racing Yamaha's Cooper Webb.
Anderson and Webb exchanged
passes late in the race before
Webb hit the dirt, giving An
-
derson the security of second
place. A runner-up result match-
es Anderson's best ride of 2023.
Anderson said, "I think we
[he and Webb] slowed our pace
for a second trying to have that
battle, and that let Jett get that
three-second gap. I made a few
mistakes also, which allowed
Cooper to get on me and make
that pass. It was tough to make
time. I'd make up time in the
whoops since I had a little differ
-
ent line, but then I'd hear Cooper
because he's always revving it
holeshot in the main, and ran second
for much of the race before a bobble
dropped him to sixth by the finish. "I
felt good in the main event and got
the holeshot, which made things a
little scary, but I feel like my pace
was good in the beginning. I made
a little mistake around halfway and
got passed, but I just settled in from
there. I am happy with sixth, and the
goal for next weekend is to be in the
top five."
94 KEN ROCZEN
10TH 450SX
After watching him challenge Jett
Lawrence in the SuperMotocross
World Championships, many had
their eye on Progressive/Ecstar
Suzuki rider Ken Roczen at A1 to be
a top contender. Despite a win in his
heat race, the German can add his
name to the list of those who's night
didn't go as planned. "I had a good
start going into the first turn, but I
couldn't turn and was midfield and
then my front got ripped away from
me in the rhythm. Malcolm Stewart's
tire about ripped my booty cheeks
off, lol," Roczen explained on social
media. "My bike was so bent up I had
to go into the mechanics area and
even after, my bar mounts were still
so twisted. I made it back to 10th and
salvaged what we could. The only
way I wasn't going to finish the race
was if my handlebar was ripped off."
MYOWNRACE
Jason Anderson
(21) and Cooper
Webb (2) battled
for second for
much of the race
until Webb had
this nasty get-off.
Luckily, he was not
seriously injured.
