outdoor motocross title at Steel City... We reported that 32-year-old
Wayne Rainey had su"ered what
would be a career-ending back
injury in a solo crash at the Italian
Grand Prix at Misano... Alain
Olivier won the Nevada Rally.
Ricky Carmichael, who was featured on the cover 20 years
ago, clinched the 250cc MX Championship at Steel City, and
Grant Langston took the 125cc class win to maintain his slim
(now seven-point) lead in the championship over Ryan Hughes
with one round to go, but the round the following weekend at
Kenworthy's was canceled right after the Steel City race due to
flooding, so Langton was awarded the title... Kurtis Roberts
took his first career AMA Superbike win at VIR.
