ROUND 10 / AUGUST 19, 2023 BUDDS CREEK RACEWAY / MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND P64 PLAY IT AGAIN Things got wild in the first 250MX moto after a red flag was thrown at the halfway point and officials issued a full gate restart. Unfortunately for Haiden Deegan, the Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha Team rider was leading by five seconds when Hardy Munoz crashed and the track had to be cleared for him to receive medical attention. Per the AMA rulebook, since more than two laps had been completed, the riders' gate picks were determined by the position they were running when the race was stopped. Deegan had the first pick for the restart, but went down in the first turn. Some feel that in situations like this, a staggered start, as you see in Supercross, might be worth looking into. NEW FACES Three new faces were on the gate at Budds Creek. Julien Beaumer made his full-time professional debut with the Red Bull KTM Team, while Casey Cochran (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) and Mark Fineis (Gas- Gas) jumped in to get their feet wet in the Pro ranks. Beaumer had the best ride of the three, finishing ninth overall with 11-9 scores ahead of Cochran in 22nd and Fineis in 24th. Briefly... MOTOCROSS I PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP / SUPERCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (Above) Haiden Deegan (238) was leading the first 250MX until a red- flag restart led to this. Carnage. (Left) Chase Sexton again challenged Lawrence for a 450MX moto win but, again, he crashed.
