had a small tip-over, allowing
Lawrence to squirt away, which
is something we've seen happen
several times this season. But
again, Sexton didn't throw in the
towel and he launched another
late-race charge that carried
him right back up to Lawrence's
rear wheel. Time, however, was
running out for Sexton, who saw
a glimmer of hope for the win
on the last lap when Lawrence
had a small bobble. But Sexton
was just a little too far behind to
capitalize, and Lawrence held on
to take his 20th moto win of the
season by less than a second.
"That first [moto], Lawrence
said, "I was on a knobby tire
and everyone else was on the
paddle [tire], so I was at a bit of
a disadvantage. But it was fun,
something different. It made me
think. Luckily, I was able to get
around both of my main guys,
Chase and Dylan [Ferrandis],
in the first couple of laps. The
perfect season is still there, but
it doesn't change. During this
week, I almost felt more moti
-
vated than I did before [winning]
the championship."
A terrible first moto that saw
Sexton get a bad start, followed
by a couple of crashes, cost him
any chance at a podium at the
end of the day. A 9-2 resulted in
fourth place overall.
"I'm leaving Budds Creek with
some mixed feelings," Sexton

51 JUSTIN BARCIA
5TH (5-4) 450MX
With just one outdoor race under
his belt this summer, Justin Barcia
logged a strong fifth overall. "We
used press day as a test session,
and then we changed the suspension
going into the first moto," said Barcia.
"We had two good starts and battled
up front in both motos. All in all, I was
extremely happy with where I'm at for
not being able to train or anything.
This is like only my fourth 30-minute
moto since I started riding again, so
considering that, I'm quite happy."

9 ADAM CIANCIARULO
7TH (7-6) 450MX
Adam Cianciarulo led his first laps of
the year in the first 450MX moto but
finished outside the top five with 7-6
results. "Pace is coming along nicely,"
he said. "I will figure out how to hold
on the whole moto if it's the last thing
I do, dammit."
Jay Wilson (906) is quickly making a
name for himself in the 450MX class.
