After spending most of the season
running outside the top 10, Cameron
Smith stepped up in a big way at
Black Hills Speedway to secure his
first-career premier-class top five. "It
feels really good," he said. "I've strug-
gled most of the season, and now
we're starting to get stuff figured out. I
think we're right where we need to be,
mentally and physically, and we're
getting the bikes where we need them
to be, too. I got a decent start and
just tried to pick them off and not burn
my tire up fighting too much. We just
stayed consistent and capitalized on
other riders' mistakes."

Declan Bender put himself in Rookie
of the Year contention with a timely
career-first Singles top 10. The
seventh-place performance comes
just a week after suffering a big crash
that brought out a red flag at the
Peoria TT. "I didn't get a good start
and then I struggled to get in the
groove," he said. "Finally, about lap
four or five, I dropped about four or
