"It feels really good," he said. "I've strug- gled most of the season, and now we're starting to get stuff figured out. I think we're right where we need to be, mentally and physically, and we're getting the bikes where we need them to be, too. I got a decent start and just tried to pick them off and not burn my tire up fighting too much. We just stayed consistent and capitalized on other riders' mistakes." 216 DECLAN BENDER 7TH SINGLES Declan Bender put himself in Rookie of the Year contention with a timely career-first Singles top 10. The seventh-place performance comes just a week after suffering a big crash that brought out a red flag at the Peoria TT.
