Febvre, Geerts School 'em In The Sand
T
he endlessly deep sands of
Lommel served as round
13 of the FIM Motocross World
Championship, July 22-23. Ro-
main Febvre claimed his fourth
consecutive overall win in the
MXGP division, while Jago
Geerts swept the MX2 class.
MXGP
Jeremy Seewer kicked things
off with the holeshot in race
one, sprinting ahead of his
Yamaha-mounted teammate
and sand specialist Glenn
Coldenhoff. Febvre started third
but moved his way into the lead
after a mistake from Colden
-
hoff. From there it was smooth
sailing for the Kawasaki rider,
who continued his momentum
into another race victory. The
win allowed Febvre to cut the
points gap to under 100 behind
Prado. Coldenhoff held on for
second while Prado made the
move for third on the final lap.
Race two looked similar with
Seewer out front and Prado
close behind. Race-one winner,
Febvre, found himself buried
in the pack outside the top 20.
Prado made the most of his
rival's misfortune and moved to
the lead by the end of lap one.
Febvre continued to charge for
the entire moto and worked his
way all the way up to second by
the checkered flag. A 1-2 score
-
card gave Febvre the advantage
in the overall rankings ahead of
Prado and Coldenhoff.
"It was again a great weekend,
as I felt really good on the bike
and the track since Saturday,"
Febvre said. "The new layout
made it more technical, which
helped to make the difference.
The first race was good as I
made a comfortable gap at
the front to win the race. In the
second race, after the bad start, I
worked some magic in the sand
