VOL. 50 ISSUE 32 AUGUST 13, 2013 at Laguna… with this thing I just want to get up there and mix it up with the other CRT guys, finish the race, and give these guys the good result that they deserve. Richard and the whole team have put in a lot of hard work and it needs to show on the racetrack, so I need to come forth and give them a good result." Rispoli's GPTech effort went trouble free and he was able to get in a valuable 76 laps on the day. He'd also tested the Tech3 Racing Mistral 610 earlier in the week at Gingerman Raceway in Michigan. "The first session I was in awe really," Rispoli said of racing at the historic Speedway for the first time. "It's so flat it's really hard to find some reference marks through here. It's almost so flat you can't see the next corner even though it's flat. It's weird. We worked really hard. The biggest thing was track time. The track was really dirty so it was hard to get a good feeling out of the front, but towards the end of the day we were able to push the bike a lot harder and it seemed to come in and feel a lot better when it's ridden hard." GPTech finished ninth in the Moto2 race at Indy in 2010 with Jason DiSalvo and 31st in 2011 with Jake Gagne. Last year the team moved up to MotoGP and finished 16th at Indy with Aaron Yates. Rispoli will face a variety of challenges as he enters the weekend. "It's going to be tough," Rispoli said. "We're going to race against the best guys in the world, and it's a motorcycle I've never seen before. It's also a track I've never seen, so thankfully we have this test so we can get further up with speed and see if we can get on the back of these guys. I think the first free practice is going to be kind of like, 'Oh, wow.' But I'm going into it wanting to get on the back of them, and let's learn as much as we can and get the most experience that I can. I don't really know what to expect with the first time racing at the highest level of our sport, and I thank everyone at GPTech for getting me in front and showcasing my talent." Larry Lawrence P25 Briefly... Baker To FIM Former Ben Spies manager Phil Baker has been hired by the FIM to the position of commercial developer, effective September 2. Baker will be in charge of the development and implementation of the FIM's business strategy to maximize revenues through sale of sponsorship and media rights worldwide. Ride With Colton If you're from Chicago or the neighboring Midwest area and are planning on riding to the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, join stunt rider Aaron Colton and his fellow riders on a Bike Rally to the Grand Prix. The ride will leave at noon on August 16 from Soldier Field in Chicago, will head south, making a pit stop in Lafayette, Indiana. From there, the group will head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway where all of the participating riders will have the opportunity to take a lap of the track. Riding his BMW S1000RR, Edie was in front of series points leader Jordan Szoke and Alex Welsh when the race was red-flagged after 18 of a scheduled 20 laps had been completed. Edie, Szoke, Welsh and Jodi Christie spent most of the race battling over the lead in a four-rider scrap, but Edie got to the front of the group on lap 12 and managed to stay there the rest of the way. The 17-year-old won in his first appearance of the 2013 Mopar Canadian Superbike season. Then Came Welsh Alex Welsh ensured the battle for the Canadian Superbike Championship will go down to the final round after scoring a dramatic last-lap victory over Jordan Szoke at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sunday. Welsh dove inside at the end of the backstraight on the final lap and hung on to edge the series points leader by just .185 of a second. The result means Szoke will take a 41-point lead over Welsh into the final round at Le Circuit MontTremblant, August 23-25.
