hopes were high for Sexton,
since the last time we saw him
on track at round one, he went
toe to toe with Lawrence for the
duration of the moto. It didn't
pan out the same way this time
around, though. Poor starts and
a "lethargic '' start in race one
(Sexton mentioned symptoms
of mononucleosis which had
prevented him from racing) did
him no favors in getting close
to Lawrence. In the second
moto, he had a small tip-over
and never got back around Fer-
randis. Still, Sexton landed on
the podium in both motos
and
swapped scores with Ferrandis
about his process of develop-
ing the new-generation Yamaha
YZ450F
and seems to have the
bugs worked out. He's second in
points.
"The first moto was not that
great," said Ferrandis. "I spent
many laps behind [Ty] Master-
pool and couldn't find a way to
pass him. I lost too
much time
and energy. In the second moto,
I was behind Jett, and I tried ev-
erything I could to pass. I think
there
is room to beat him, but
we'll have to be perfect."
Sexton returned to action for
what he considers his "home
race." After a few weeks off,
up. I just have to keep getting
those good starts because it
makes it easier on myself."
Dylan Ferrandis is finally
showing what he's made of,
as he took second overall. The
2021 450MX Champion rode up
front all day and even fended off
this year's Supercross champ,
Chase Sexton, late in the second
moto. Ferrandis was ultra-fast at
the 2022 Motocross of Nations
which was held here, so it's no
real surprise to see him up front
again. He seemed to be the
only rider who could get close
to Lawrence, but faded as the
race wore on. Ferrandis is open
