The all-new Yamaha TY250Z trials machine was on the cover 30 years
ago. The TYZ featured a 250cc two-stroke motor and a six-speed
transmission, and it wasn't available in the United States... Ricky
Graham beat Rodney Farris and Chris Carr to win the Lima Half-Mile…
Fred Andrews won the GNCC Blackwater 100 over Randy Hawkins and
Tom Norton... Greg Albertyn scored his fifth overall win at the British
250cc MXGP, moving him into a 96-point lead in the championship...
Jim Neese wrapped up both motos
in the 250cc class at Muddy
Creek Raceway, and Mike Brown
swept the 125cc class.
Our cover story 20 years ago was a preview of the World Superbike
round at Laguna Seca... Ruben Xaus won the World Superbike round
in San Marino... Chris Carr became the all-time Short Track National
winner at Tri-State Speedway in Indiana… Juha Salminen claimed
the overall World Enduro Championship along with the 500cc Four-
Stroke title. Second overall went to Stefan Merriman, who also won
the 250 Two-Stroke crown… Stefan Everts won the Austrian MXGP
by a bikelength over Mickael Pichon… The Alessi brothers, Mike
and Jeff, won all four motos in the 125cc and 250cc Pro Sport
classes at a Loretta Lynn's Qualifier.
