Just how light was the new Honda CR125M? We demonstrated by lifting the 180-pound bike by hand on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. Utah Inter-AMA MX winner Pierre Karsmakers and San Jose Mile winner Gene Romero also made the cover... Karsmakers swept both motos in Salt Lake City at the "Inter-Trans-Arama" motocross, the first of the Inter-AMA series; Brad Lackey and Jim Pomeroy rounded out the podium… Jim Lunde topped the 125cc Senior class at Mammoth Motocross, Doug Grant won the 250cc Senior event and Ken Zahrt won the Open Senior event. Each won $500... 50 YEARS AGO JULY 10, 1973 P116 LOOKING BACK I We featured the Yamaha XJ900RK Seca on the cover 40 years ago to accompany our riding impression of the new machine. We said that it oozed sensibility, which wasn't something we were seeing much of at the time... David Bailey took his first outdoor win with a double-moto sweep at the RedBud Track 'n' Trail MX over Scott Burnworth and Billy Ules. Broc Glover won the 500cc National and Johnny O'Mara won the 125cc National... Bubba Shobert edged out Ricky Graham and Scott Parker by inches to win the Indy Mile... Kenny Roberts won the Dutch TT. 40 YEARS AGO JULY 13, 1983 (Left) Aussie Stefan Merriman wheelies his way to the World Enduro 250cc Two-Stroke crown 20 years ago.
