with a new setup and I struggled
with arm pump all day. For
that last moto we changed the
shock, and the bike was way
better. We knew at the begin-
ning of the season it would be
difficult, but
on paper it's not too
bad with P2 in the champion-
ship. If you had asked me this
two weeks
ago I'd tell you that
I'd be outside the top five."
Cooper Webb continued his
improvements as he also moved
up onto the podium with third
overall. The KTM rider, and
former 250 champion, is open
about his lack of preparation
for the summer series but his
results hardly show it. Webb
found himself in the Ferrandis/
started up front in both motos
but never held the lead for more
than a few turns, not for lack of
trying though. Ferrandis stayed
up front and found himself bat
-
tling with the KTMs of Aaron
Plessinger and Cooper
Webb all
day. The number-14, who is rac-
ing a new generation Yamaha
YZ450F,
kept the gap smaller
than that of last week, and a
second and a third ultimately
gave him the runner-up spot.
Ferrandis also moves into sec
-
ond in the championship after
two rounds
as he continues to
race his way back into shape.
"Last weekend was a big
learning week for us," Ferrandis
said. "We showed up this week
ously assessing the gap. On the
first few laps it's just going as
fast as you can while everyone
is behind you, then once I get
that five-second gap I just see
where my pace is at and see if I
can keep gapping them out and
if not just stay here and try not
to make mistakes. This track I
was searching for lines just to
see if I could gain any [time] and
I took a few lines and actually
lost time."
With four moto wins in four
attempts, Lawrence leads the
points by 18 over Dylan Ferran
-
dis; the Frenchman moved up a
spot this weekend
to take home
second overall. The Monster En
-
ergy Star Racing Yamaha rider
Webb (2) claimed
second in moto two
after a long fight with
teammate Plessinger.
