Cameron Petersen's weekend
started well but ended with an-
other race-two disaster following
his race-two
engine blow up at
Road Atlanta. The South African
teammate to Gagne took second
in race one but dropped the bike
at Charlotte's Web on the opening
lap of race two. He made it back
on track for some exploratory
laps but returned to the pits to
retire the number 45 and dropped
42 points behind Gagne in the title
standings after just two rounds.
PJ Jacobsen got his season
back on track with a pair of fifth
places on the second Tytlers
Cycle Racing BMW, ahead of
Josh Herrin, who struggled all
struggling pretty much ever since
I got on this bike to make a good
time on the soft tire. I think part
of it is I'm just not trusting the TC;
I'm not trusting the bike.
"I thought I was going to beat
Scholtz to the line in race two,
but he got me with a sneaky
little swerve. I don't think he
realized I was as close as I was.
Hats off to him. He was riding
so good. Obviously, Jake rode
incredible all weekend. It's going
to be tough to close the gap to
that guy, but just happy to get
out of here with a podium and
right there and driving off the
corner well. Obviously, I don't
mean to try to cut somebody off,
but I'm just happy to be sitting
up here in second place."
Beaubier was unhappy to be
off the podium in race one in
fourth behind Petersen in sec
-
ond and Scholtz in third, but the
four-time
champion pushed on
during Sunday to go one better
in third and cement second in
the championship thus far.
"I was super happy with the
step we made this morning,"
Beaubier said after race two when
he topped the morning warm-
up session. "We made a couple
tweaks to the bike overnight and
threw the soft tire in. I've been
