little braking battle in there and I
could drive up under the bridge,
stopped at the exit of turn one
to check on Herrin, who was left
fuming but aware it was a racing
incident.

Herrin made the pass on Beau

bier at turn six to lead onto the
back straight. Beaubier retali-
ated down the straight and at
over 190 mph, the two touched
and Herrin was sent careering
towards the outside wall. Herrin
somehow pulled it back on line
but then had no front brakes for
the upcoming chicane, and us
-
ing the rear brake only, split the
pair of Gagne and Beaubier as
he ran into the gravel trap, fortu
-
nately without further incident to
finish fourth.
Meanwhile, Jake Gagne was
perfectly placed to pick up the
pieces of the Beaubier/Herrin
conflict and surged into the
lead, holding it to the flag from
Beaubier and Scholtz.
