49. Only Jeremy McGrath (72)
and James Stewart (50) have
more. Despite winning for the
fifth time this season, Tomac
only has a five-point advantage
over runner-up Webb on the fac

tory Red Bull KTM and a modest
10-point lead over Sexton, who
completed this year's Daytona
podium.
In 250SX East main, Honda
HRC's Hunter Lawrence chalked
up his third win out of four
races, extending his champion

ship lead to 14 over Fire Power
Honda's Max Anstie, who was
second on the night.
Rookie Haiden Deegan of the
Star Racing Yamaha team got
on the podium for the first time
of his young career and is also
now third in the championship,

Tomac flew under the radar dur-
ing qualifying, he was just fourth
quickest behind Honda HRC's
Sexton, Progressive Insurance/
HEP Suzuki's Ken Roczen and
Monster Energy Kawasaki's
Jason Anderson. But Tomac
turned up the heat when it
counted.
"I was slow in a couple spots
of the track and never really put
a fast lap together," Tomac said
about his qualifying time.
In the main and after some
light rain, however, it was a
different story for the Yamaha
rider. Tomac put himself is a
good position and was stalking
the leader, Webb, for about half
the race, even making contact at
one point in a tricky off-camber
turn. A patient Tomac eventu-
ally made the pass when Webb
missed a shift, which momen-
tarily threw off the KTM rider's
rhythm. But it was all Tomac
needed.
"I hit neutral, kind of random,
and he was able to get by me,"
Webb said.
"I believe he [Webb] hit false
neutral, and I was able to slide
right by and do the normal triple
line," Tomac said. "There wasn't
a whole lot of thought to it, I was
just to the right side of him."

Then I came back, tried to make
another pass, and got tangled again.
Fourth was all it wrote. I'm really dis-
appointed. It definitely was a podium
night with my speed and the bike was
really good."

"Daytona was looking to be fun, and
I enjoyed the track," said Red Bull
KTM's Aaron Plessinger who had a
quiet Daytona. "I qualified 10th and it
actually went pretty well—I felt good
throughout the day. In the heat race,
I got an all right start and worked my
way into fourth. In the main event, I
got an okay start and was trying to
move forward, but I lost my flow and
kind of struggled throughout the rest
of the main."
