(Left) Cooper Webb finally seems happy with his bike now after starting the season with two second-place finishes. (Right) Justin Barcia and Ken Roczen had a good battle on the track. VOLUME ISSUE JANUARY , P53 450SX Tomac is proving that he's going to be hard to beat in 2023. So far, no one has. He's off to an even better start than last year, the year he won two titles. In the past, Tomac had a reputation for getting bad starts, but that seems to be changing. The reign - ing champ is now getting better starts and running up front right from the get-go, no deep back- of-the-pack charges have been needed, at least so far. In San Diego, he maneuvered from sixth to third during lap one, putting Tomac to within striking distance early on and spelling trouble for the rest of the field. He then performed a sneaky inside pass of Cooper Webb and proceeded to march away from the former two-time champ. Chalk up another win for Tomac, as he goes back-to-back to start the series. MYOWNRACE 43 LEVI KITCHEN 21ST 250SX Levi Kitchen can't seem to catch a break right now. The Star Racing Yamaha rider put in a great ride in the heat race, and just when things were looking good, he took a massive digger in the main-event start. "It was a good night un l it wasn't," he said. "I finally felt be er on the bike, so I'm going to take away the posi ves from the weekend and rest up as much as I can to be ready for Anaheim 2." 14 DYLAN FERRANDIS 6TH 450SX Dylan Ferrandis is showing consistency so far en route to sixth in the 450SX main. "Overall, the day went well," said the Frenchman. "I felt good all day and got a good start in prac ce. Going into the night show, I was feeling pre y decent. I got a good start in the heat race, but then I made a small mistake, and it was difficult for me to feel good a er that. In the main event, it was kind of the opposite; I got a bad start and came back through the field. It's very frustra ng for me since I try very hard to be the best I can be. We need to analyze this with the team and come back stronger in Anaheim."
