Renowned Motorsports Photographer Passes T he motorsport world lost one of its most prolific photographers with the death of Andrew Wheeler. Wheeler was found after hav- ing passed away sometime in the days before January 5 in his home of Austin, Texas. He was 60 years old. The cause of death is still unclear as Cycle News closes this publication, but he was recovering from a stroke suffered at the 2022 Japanese MotoGP, the last race he worked as a photographer. British-born Wheeler was a mainstay of road-racing pad- docks in America and in Europe, and he took some of the most iconic photos of the last 20 years, many of which have been fea- tured in Cycle News. "Andrew may be gone, but he will not be forgotten," wrote re- nowned MotoGP journalist David Emmett. "Because of his im- mense talent as a photographer. Because of his warmth and friend- liness. Because of his passion, for racing, for food, for travel. Be- cause of his love for his [departed] wife Emily. And yes, because of the quirks and idiosyncrasies that made him the unique and memo- rable person he was. "We do not truly die when our hearts stop beating and our bodies fail us. We live on in the memories of those who knew us and loved us. Andrew Wheeler will live on for a long time." CN IN THE WIND P54 Photographer Andrew Wheeler was found dead in his Austin, Texas, home. He was 60. Carlile, G&G Racing Racing Team Up K olby Carlile and G&G Racing having joined forces for the 2023 AFT Championship. After four years aboard the Yamaha MT-07 in the Mission Production Twins class, includ- ing two championship-winning seasons, G&G Racing an- nounced its return to the premier class for 2023, with Carlile. Also, G&G Racing is continuing its partnership with Yamaha Racing for 2023 making this their eighth season together. "Yamaha Racing is excited that the G&G Racing Team is making the transition from the Mission Production Twins class to the Mission SuperTwins class," said Jim Roach, Yamaha Racing Department Manager for YMUS. "Having won two Production Twins Champion- ships, it is now time to take the next step. The addition of Kolby Carlile, a Parts Unlimited AFT Singles Champion who won his Singles Championship on a Yamaha, will allow the team to continue to battle for Champion- ships. Yamaha Racing is looking forward to the start of the racing season!" "I am so exhilarated to team up with G&G racing going into my 10th season as a profes- sional racer," said Carlile. "I have spent a lot of time battling with these bikes since 2019, so I know what they are capable of. We were able to do a test in California, and I liked the bikes as well as working with LJ and John (Gronek).
