Howes Takes 2022 Sonora Rally Win
S
kyler Howes' preparation for
the 2023 Dakar Rally has
continued in fine style after the
Utah resident scored his second
big win in a month by taking the
2022 Sonora Rally in San Luis
Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico,
October 18-22.
Pairing with his first FIM World
Cross Country Rally win at the
recent Rallye Du Maroc in Mo-
rocco, defending Sonora cham-
pion Howes used his factory
Husqvarna 450 Rally to head
home Honda's Kevin DeJongh
by 18.09 seconds.
"Obviously Sonora holds
a special place for me," said
Howes. "This was my first rally
and my start into the sport of
rally and why I was able to go
to Dakar for the first time. Now
we're here as a factory racer and
I'm happy to have chalked up
another win. This is my second
win here at Sonora so I'm super
happy for this. I'm glad the team
allowed me to be here for this
because it was incredibly good
training and super fun to be
here. I'm happy for my team and
my crew that came down to help
me. It was super fun, and not
easy for five days, but we made it
through clean."
The Road To Dakar Challenge
was again part of the Sonora
Rally and the win went to Da-
vid Pearson, who now gets his
ticket to the great race. In the
Enduro category, the win went
to Anthony Bonello while Jordan
Huibregste took the gold in the
Malle Moto class.
