Veteran Enduro Heroes Compete In Portugal A ny hard core ISDE and World Enduro fan will certainly recognize the names Giorgio Grasso, Tulio Pellegrinelli and Enrico Tortoli who were the win- ners of this year's FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy Team Champi- onship in Portugal, September 28-October 2. The trio made up the winning Italian squad in this four-day ISDE format competi- tion. Team Italy went into the final MX test on Sunday with the lead and held on for the overall victory against more than 130 of the sport's top veteran off-road racers that participated. "I've really enjoyed racing here in Portugal," former Enduro World Champion Grasso said. "At the end of the four days we got the win we were looking for. The big change we made as a team from previous years was that we came here well prepared in every aspect—we were really ready. The race was not too dif- ficult, but at the same time there were some tricky aspects, so it's great to get through the four days with no troubles. For my- self, Tulio and Enrico, it's been a great week." Team Germany took runner-up honors, with Team Portugal third. In the individual standings, it was the lone American who cap- tured the overall victory. ISDE veteran and multi-time gold med- alist Fred Hoess was the top- finishing rider overall. En route to the overall win, Hoess, aboard a WR250 Husqvarna, was the top rider on day three and had one of the day's fastest times in the MX test. Second overall went to Giorgio Volpi and third to Adriano Mi- cozzi. CN OVERALL TEAM 1. Italy 2. Germany 3. Portugal 4. Canada 5.
