We had coverage of the Champion Spark Plug Motorcycle Classic Road Race at Ontario Motor Speedway. A bruised and battered Yvon Duhamel was pictured on the cover while getting patched up. Paul Smart was the big winner... Heikki Mikkola won the Trans-AMA Motocross round that was held in Linnville, Ohio. Hans Maisch and Roger DeCoster went 2-3. Bob Grossi won the 250 Support class... We tested the latest 125cc motocrosser from Husqvarna... We showed you the latest bikes from Triumph, including the Craig Vetter-designed Hurricane X-75, "designed for the man who wants something different," Triumph said. 50 Years Ago OCTOBER 10, 1972 P146 LOOKING BACK Ricky Graham was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago for winning the AMA/Winston Pro Championship at Ascot. Randy Goss won the night's racing... Broc Glover, Alan King and George Holland were the Pro-class winners at the CMC Trans-Cal MX Series round at Hollister... Team USA showed promise after finishing second at the 57th International Six Days Enduro in Czechoslovakia. The all-Husky team was made up of Dwight Rudder, Terry Cunningham, Ray Mungenast, Mark Hyde, Ed Lojak and Mike Melton... Suzuki-mounted Randy Mamola won the final GP of the year in Germany. 40 Years Ago OCTOBER 10, 1982 40 40 40 (Above) This is Competition Park in San Jacinto, California, just a few days before the 2002 Motocross of Nations was set to take place. Obviously, the facility wasn't ready, so the race was relocated to Spain. (Below) USA's all-Husqvarna team finished second at the ISDE in Povaska Bystrica, Czechoslovakia, in 1982.
