The Kawa- saki of local motocross star Trey ]orski s lid through th e first co rner ah ead of th e pack, but Cooper was right behind. Meanwhile, 12 oth er cla sses a wa i ted th eir turn for th edead en g ine start seq ue nce . Shortl y a fte r th e last class left th e sta rti n g line, ] orski appeared at th e start/finish line. ]orski continued to build his lead , but Co oper n ever lo st sight o f th e leader. Somewhere o n lap three ]orski dumped it, and new lead er Co oper took ove r th e lead. Several minutes lat er ]orski appear ed in th e p its with a broken clutch lever. After. repairs ] orski made a valiant effo rt to reg ain th e lead, but th er e wasn 't en ough tim e. ] orski h ad to sett le for fourth behind Gu y Cooper, hi s broth er Chuck Cooper a n d Greg Brown. In th e Over 30 Amateur cla ss, moto- cros ser Bill y Denton led th e fir st co rn er c ha rge on his semi-retired Open cla ss Montesa .
