Rea got a long-lap penalty for
his error, having already come
under pressure from riders who
passed him in the aftermath of
the Bautista incident. Rea still
clambered back through the field
to fifth place at the flag.
Up front Bassani was leading
Razgatlioglu until the superior
pace of the World Champion
took him to the lead, and eventu-
ally his second win of the day
and weekend. He's now got 26
career wins.
Rinaldi overtook Razgatlioglu
as his aggression turned from Rea
for a time, but Razgatlioglu passed
him back after Rinaldi ran wide, to
win by over two seconds. Bassani
was again third, preferring the long
races to the Superpole sprint in
which he was "only" sixth.
Alex Lowes was not so far from
Bassani in fourth, again, with
Rea fifth and Redding sixth.
Expect the fallout from the
Rea/Bautista incident to go on,
even after Rea went to apologize
to Bautista.
For Garrett Gerloff (GRT Ya-
maha WorldSBK), a fifth in race
one was matched by a pair of
eighths in the Superpole race and
race two.
"Sunday was a bit difficult, ev-
erybody had really good pace,"
Gerloff said. "The Superpole
race is always hectic and tough
to manage, but at least I was able
to recover to eighth place, which
is better than nothing. Same
thing in race two, I had contact
from another rider and went
wide, so I had to fight my way
back. It is what it is, but I'll keep
fighting and focus on Barcelona."
In the post Magny points,
Bautista has 322, Razgatlioglu
moved up to second overall with
302, Rea has 285, and Rinaldi is
fourth with 167.
Next round is in Barcelona-
Catalunya, on September 23-25.
