IN THE WIND P36 Young Clinches Canadian Superbike Title W ith one of three races left to go in the season finale tripleheader of 2022 Canadian Superbike Championship, Ben Young (Van Dolder's Home Team BMW) clinched the title over the August 13-14 weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Ontario. Finishing second to race winner Alex Dumas in race two was enough for Young to wrestle away the Canada Cup from Dumas. After Young passed Dumas in the last corner of the last lap to win Saturday's race one, the 2021 Champion, Dumas, led Young for majority of the contest as he tried desperately to keep his crown, retaliating quickly when Young made a pair of passes for the lead, including a brave move into turn 10. In the end, Dumas would hold off his rival for his seventh career victory and third of the season, but it wasn't enough to shake Young, as he salvaged a 32-point lead with only 27 points remaining in race three Sunday afternoon. While Young did wrap up one title on the day, he still had some more work left to do later that afternoon to bring home a Constructors Championship for BMW after a double-podium for Suzuki—though he did bring home BMW's 125th podium in their feature class history. While Dumas did add another victory under his belt and the first of his career away from Calabogie Motorsports Park, it's hardly the result the Liqui Moly/ FAST School Suzuki rider was hoping for, though he, too, is al- ready looking to take the trophy back in 2023. The Constructors Champion- ship was on the line in Sunday afternoon's race three, the final race of the season. Unfortunate- ly, it lasted just less than four laps, after a pair of incidents involving multiple riders brought the day to a halt shortly before the regular curfew of 5:00 p.m. As a result, Dumas con- cluded his second full season in Canada with an eighth career victory under his belt for the Liqui Moly/FAST School Suzuki team, though it wasn't enough to lift Suzuki to a second con- secutive Constructors Cham- pionship. Instead, Young, who finished second, secured the title for BMW. CN Young won back the 2022 Canadian Superbike Championship after race two then went on to help give BMW the 2022 Constructors Championship in race three.
