PRODUCTION TWINS Deep into the main event, the day's Mission Production Twins storyline was one of continued perfec- tion on the part of the rolling title leader, Jesse Janisch. Instead, it turned out to be a comeback tale penned by Mikey Rush. close back in just in time for late strike. Brunner, who'd struggled to re- gain his fire after being criticized for some overly aggressive riding earlier in his career (including earlier this year), was both pre- cise and attacking in Rapid City. "After Mischler got by me, I just tried to stay cool, calm, and collected behind him," he said. "I tried to figure out what he was doing that was faster than what I was doing. I kind of figured that out and got close enough where it just became a matter of what I could do to pass him and where I could do it. Fortunately, I got un- der him entering one of the turns and never looked back." Mischler finished second, followed by Mission Foods/ Al Lamb's Dallas Honda's Trent Even as these powerful teams have tightened their grip on the coveted category, Trevor Brunner proved there's still room for some variety up front, becoming the fifth different winner in the class of the season. To do so, he had to go through the Turner Racing trio of Morgen Mischler, Chase Saathoff, and Dalton Gauthier, while factory KTM pilots Kody Kopp and Max Whale, winners of the last five races in a row, were uncharacter- istically quiet. Brunner blasted past Gauthier to take the early lead, fended off rookie Saathoff, and then lost the position to Mischler, who proceeded to open up a gap at the front. Brunner studied the oft-times unconventional lines of Mischler and found a way to Both the Singles and Production Twins classes beat the rain. Trevor Brunner (21) came away with the Singles win, the first to do so on a non- KTM or Honda.
