LOOKING BACK
A Mark Kariya photo of Mike Bell winning the Superbowl of Motocross
at the Los Angeles Coliseum was on the cover of Cycle News 40 years
ago. Donnie Hansen wrapped up the Supercross Championship. It was
billed as the last Superbowl of Motocross, as the facility was about to get
a complete overhaul for the 1984 Olympics... We had coverage of the
AFM Six-Hour from Riverside International Raceway. The Vandenbroek/
Hagie Team took the win... Brad Lackey and Dave Thorpe battled it
out in the 500cc MX GP at Farleigh Castle. Thorpe came out on top...
Danny LaPorte won both 250cc MX GP motos at the Dutch GP.

John Hateley was pictured on the cover of Cycle News taking pictures 50
years ago... The Trans-AMA Motocross Series visited New York's famous
Unadilla circuit, where the Americans, once again, went up against the
Europeans. Arne Lindfors came away with the overall win in the 250cc
International class ahead of Gary Jones and Torsten Hallman. Dewayne
Jones won the 500cc Support class... American Mark Blackwell finished
third behind winner Adolf Weil and Ake Jonsson at the German MX GP.
