50 Years Ago JULY 18, 1972 P134 LOOKING BACK Kenny Roberts won the Laguna Seca GNC Road Race National and was pictured on the cover 40 years ago. It was Roberts' 30th AMA National win. Freddie Spencer won the first of the two races. A mechanical knocked Spencer out of race two. Eddie Lawson won the Superbike race... Bernie Schreiber won the Big Sky AMA/NATC Trials in Bozeman, Montana... We featured an interview with supercross creator Mike Goodwin... Danny Storbeck and Darren Rhoten were some of the top motocrossers at the GNC MX National at Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch. 40 Years Ago JULY 21, 1982 Sixteen-year-old Marty Tripes made front-page news for beating the Europeans and winning the Super Bowl of Motocross at the L.A. Coliseum. He fought back the fast-starting Swedes to pull off the historic victory. The race was a round of the Inter-AMA Motocross... Mark Brelsford won the Salem Half-Mile...
