VOLUME 59 ISSUE 25 JUNE 21, 2022 P33 a crash involving veteran Davy Morgan. Race two of the Supersport class was the head-to-head fight the masses came to see, with Hickman and Dunlop squaring off in a shortened two-lap sprint race run two days after originally planned due to inclement weather. Dunlop would eventually better Hickman by 3.2 seconds with Harrison taking third for his fourth podium on the week so far. The Super Twins race also looked to be a fight between Paton-mounted Hickman and Dunlop until Dunlop's machine expired on the third lap at the Laurel Bank section. Hickman went on to take a massive 1:40 margin of victory over Aprilia's Lee Johnston and Kawasaki's Paul Jordan in third, taking his first TT podium. In the Sidecar category, both races were won by the dominant brothers Tom and Ben Birchall, however, neither races ran their full distance after separate acci- dents at the Ago's Leap section of track. In race one, French sidecar passenger Cesar Chanal lost his life with driver Oliver Lavorel taken to hospital in critical condition. Race two of the sidecars saw another tragic accident at Ago's Leap, this time involving father and son pairing of Roger and Bradley Stockton, in which both protagonists perished. It was a tough year for the TT as, along with the three sidecar deaths, Davy Morgan and Mark Purslow lost their lives in sepa- rate incidents in the Supersport category, bringing the total to five riders who perished in the worst year since 1989. Cycle News' own Rennie Scaysbrook competed in the Su- persport TTs at the 2022 Isle of Man TT and he will be compiling a two-part feature on the event, with the first installment coming next week in Cycle News. CN Conor Cummins leads long-time TT rival James Hillier during the Senior TT.
