Jett Lawrence is known for his
fast technique and flashy style,
but this year his consistency is
showing why he's got the red
number one on his bike. The
young Aussie has now made it
three-for-three overalls so far
and shows no signs of letting
up. A smart ride in moto one
saw him battle with rival Justin
Cooper for second place but he
did not make a big run for the
lead, which was held by young
upstart Levi Kitchen. Lawrence
closed the gap a bit but settled
for second at the line.
A near carbon copy in race
two put Lawrence up near the
front at the start behind his
brother Hunter. He quickly fell
in line with a podium position
and again duked it out with
Cooper for second place. Once
Jett secured the spot he never
relinquished and trailed the older
Lawrence for the remainder of
the moto. A 2-2 was enough for
the overall victory.
"I didn't think my sprint speed
was that good today because
Levi [Kitchen] and Hunter both
gapped me," Jett said. "Levi
was a bit of a new one because
I haven't raced him much, so
it was my first time seeing how
he races…I think there was four
laps where I tried to see if I could
break him, because sometimes
you get that second and they try
harder and make more mistakes.
Realistically, I think he ended up
dropping it even more and pulled
out and I was like, 'ah, damn!' I
just decided to stay with second
and knew I had to get another
good start in that second moto."
More Lawrence action con-
tinued as Hunter Lawrence
earned another second overall.
A modest start in moto one set
him back, as he later finished
fourth to start the day. Moto two
was a different story though, as
Hunter grabbed the holeshot
and controlled the entirety of the
race. Despite podiums at the
