Stewart and Trey Canard (41) had a
battle in both motos. Canard thought
he had it won, but came up just a
point short.
but, by the time he got going
again, he was mired deep in the
field.
Barcia led the first few laps, as
Canard and Stewart gave chase.
While putting pressure on the
leaders, Dungey suddenly pulled
off the track when his chain came
off.
"I had to pull off and put the
chain back on," Dungey said.
"There was a rock in there; it
wasn't anybody's fault, but I was
worried that it may come off
again, especially over one of the
big jumps."
Dungey re-entered the race in
twelfth with Villopoto just a few
spots behind him.
Stewart got around Canard on
lap six, and a rejuvenated Josh
Grant, on the JGRMX/Toyota Yamaha, was up to fourth, with BTO
Sports/KTM's Andrew Short
holding down fifth.
Stewart's persistence eventually paid off, as he got around
Barcia, who nearly lost it over the
finish-line jump.
"Holy Schmit, that was scary,"
Barcia joked afterward, referring to the jump named after local hero Donny Schmit. "I almost
threw it all away on that one."
Canard also got around Barcia
and was closing on Stewart for
the lead. The two then got into an
intense battle and passed each
other back and forth for the last
few laps. Canard gave it one last
shot in the last corner but just
couldn't make the pass. The two
were separated by less than a
second at the checkers.
"We battled all the way to the
end in that one and it was fun,"
Canard said. "I hope to keep it
going and get a win before this is
over."
Stewart grabbed the secondmoto start ahead of Dungey,

Marvin Musquin. "I am bummed
but it's their decision," Musquin
said. "They called me and said they
are about to announce the team,
then I see the name of the new,
young guy that they like, so I was
surprised. I guess I'll just take a vacation then." The AMA has not yet
announced who will represent the
U.S. at the Nations, but one would
have to assume that two riders –
Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey –
are the top two choices. Eli Tomac
seems like the obvious choice to
ride the 250.
After the race, James Stewart
talked a bit about his racing future.
"I'll be here as long as it's still fun for
me," he said. "I feel like these guys
are getting better, not necessarily
me getting slower. I had fun in Supercross this year and I'm learning
to enjoy it more. I'm having more
fun now than when I was winning
125 races back in the day. Today
was a lot of fun racing with Trey and
those guys and the day that stops,
even if it's in the middle of a season
or championship, I'll stop."
Honda's Trey Canard said that he
got engaged in the days leading
up to Millville and revealed to the
media during the post-race press
conference how he popped the big
question. "I took her to the highest
point on the property, up on a windmill, and sang her a song," he said.
"It was really cheesy and no, I'm
not singing the song to you guys."
Privateer Jimmy Albertson was in
attendance at Millville but still didn't
