CYCLE NEWS HIGHLIGHTS VMD HUSKY
DISPLAY
W
hat's next for Husqvarna?
Well it's not quite clear what's
in the future for Husky, which might
be why the company is choosing
to commemorate its past.
As the marque of the year at
the recent AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days in Lexington, Ohio,
the folks at Husky celebrated
the "champions and riders of
Husqvarna," calling on its rich
heritage as the focus of the
brand's featured presence at the
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Through cooperation with Cycle
News and its newly released Archives, Husqvarna created an
impressive timeline display of
stories and pictures, chronicling
the company's American history.
"There was no better way to
showcase Husqvarna's story in
the United States than through the
archives of Cycle News, a publication that began only one year
before Husqvarna officially came
to the U.S.," said Husqvarna's
Andy Jefferson. "Race winners
wouldn't be heroes and champions wouldn't be legends if not for
the stories told by publications
like Cycle News. It's these stories
that give our sport and our brand
so much heritage, so it only made
sense to make Cycle News part
of our showcase at the 2013 AMA
Vintage Motorcycle Days."
A double-sided 10-foot by
6-foot display in the AMA/
Husqvarna tent at Mid-Ohio
showed decades of highlights,
including a story about Torsten
Hallman's first visit to the United
States, and the announcement
of Husqvarna's distributorship
expanding at the hand of John
Penton. The ever-popular 1970s
Archives housed relics such as a
"Meet Dick Burleson" interview,
and countless win ads from motocross to desert racing and everything in between. The '80s archives revealed plenty more win
ads and interviews with young
racers such as Terry Cunningham and Mike Melton.
"We found far more great stories than we had room to display,"
Jefferson commented. "We had
so much fun digging through the
archives and want to give a big
thanks to Cycle News for aiding
us in this project. These pieces

2013 VMD event, but they were
so well received that we just
might keep them handy for future
events, as well."
Guests at the Husqvarna tent at
Mid-Ohio were invited to answer
quiz questions about Husqvarna's
history, with all answers being
found on the timeline display.
Along with some choice Husqvarna swag, the prizes included,
