VOL. 50 ISSUE 30 JULY 30, 2013 BASIC TWINS SET FOR SPRINGFIELD DEBUT T he new Basic Twins class will make its debut at the Springfield Mile doubleheader, August 31-September 1 with the hopes of providing a transition from the Pro Singles class to the Grand National Expert class, according to AMA Pro Racing. The Basic Twins class has been designed specifically for Pro Singles riders who have the aspiration of one day competing at the Grand National Expert level. This steppingstone division is to get Pro Singles some experience racing the big twins, without having to do so against the Grand National Experts. In order to promote the growth of the new class, Harley-Davidson has agreed to provide a $2000 purse for the race weekend, with $500 going to each of the winners. The same engines approved for competition in the Grand National Expert Twins class will be eligible in the Basic Twins class, but with varying levels of modification required in order for them to fit within a reduced performance envelope.
