This sent Stewart flying off his bike and onto the ground. Barcia continued to march on and while Stewart got close at the end, he couldn't make a pass back on the GasGas rider. Barcia clinched third in the race, but Stewart's fourth-place finish was good enough to solidify third in the series standings. The crowd booed Barcia on the podium and to make matters worse, the AMA fined and docked him 10 points after the race for "overly aggres- sive riding." Barcia was placed on probation earlier in the year and this penalty dropped him to fifth in the overall points standings. "It was definitely a good battle, I was riding a little tight and Mal- colm was obviously riding a little better than me because he was catching me," Barcia said. "He went inside, roll, double and I went double single and charged in it hard and, yeah, that was that. Not much to really say about that. We were racing for third in the points, and I wanted it bad, maybe it was too much but that's how I race." The battle between Barcia and Stewart had the crowd on its feet for almost all of the 450 main event. After getting taken out, Stewart charged back through the field and sent the crowd into a frenzy as he closed in on Barcia on the final lap. With Barcia's points penalty, Stewart retained third overall in the championship, a career best for the Husqvarna rider. 250SX East/ West The Salt Lake Showdown shaped up to be a good one as the 250SX West title was on the line Tensions were high as Monster Energy Star Rac- ing Yamaha's Christian Craig ROUND 17 / MAY 7, 2022 RICE-ECCLES STADIUM / SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH P74 SUPERCROSS I MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES ROOKIES With the conclusion of the 2022 sea- son, two riders were named Rookie of the Year in their respective divi- sions.
