~ FLAT TRACK TlffioniumIndoorShortTrack e (Left to right) Cory Honnes, Tom Skethway, Ken Coolbeth, Larry Sweeten, Mark Burkholder and Georgie Price were awarded their hard-earned number-one plates after the race. Many of the class titles were decided at the series finale. Tom Majeski (3A) passed series champion Larry Sweeten to win the 250cc class. In the late laps, Price found an opening and sliced under Saunders to take over the lead with a very clean pass, while Farris finally found a way around Sweeten and moved into third with three laps remaining. Time ran out and when Price took the checkered flag for the win, the title was his by just two points. Mark Burkholder held a 6.5-point margin over Rob Smith and a 12.5-point advantage over Charles Majeski as the 360cc class final gridded. Burkholder wasted no time in taking the lead from Clarence Bull and Majeski. Bull and Smith bumped.and went down coming out of turn four on the second lap, and any chance Smith had of winning was eliminated when he couldn't get untangled from a sand bag. Majeski moved into second place, several bike lengths in back of the leading Burkholder and in the closing laps, Majeski moved up to challenge Burkholder as they navigated lapped traffic. Majeski tapped Burkholder in the final turn in an effort to get by, but the attempt failed and Burkholder crossed the finish line the winner. He took his victory lap with one of his friends, who was wearing an eagle costume, standing on the back of his bike and waving an American flag. Coming into the final round, defending 250cc class champion Taylor White led Larry Sweeten by 8.5 points. When the main event got underway, White. grabbed the 250cc class lead for the first time of the season, with Tom Majeski, Larry Sweeten and Warren Diem right behind him. On the ·third lap, Majeski nudged White out of the lead. The move backfired, though, as Majeski dropped two spots in the confusion, while White fell back an entire lap. On the 10th circuit, Majeski got by Diem while coming out of turn two, and then passed Sweeten in the same spot on the final lap for the win. When the SOcc machines came to the line, only 12 points separated the top four riders in the point standings, and all four riders occupied the front row initially, but Donald Mullen hurt his chances with a false start. Brody Miller grabbed the lead ahead of David Swann, Tom Skethway and Mullen. While McKee crashed his chances away, Mullen got by Skethway to take over second on lap 10 and tried to get under Miller for the win and the title, as they came off the final turn. Mullen bobbled, however, and Miller went on to the win while Skethway squeezed back by Mullen for the runner-up position. CN Results Price owers to re eat title By Len Breech TIMONIUM, MO, NOV. 29 eorgie Price nabbed his secondstraight 250cc Pro class title with an all-or-nothing charge in the late laps of the final, as the Cockeysville 'optimistic Club and the Baltimore County Trail Riders Association brought a close to the 1992 version of what is billed as the longest continuously-running AMA Semi-Pro series, the 17th Annual Timonium Indoor Short Track Series at the Timonium Fairgrounds. By notching the win, Price just edged out Steve Burkholder in the final points tally. Burkholder failed to make the main in the rare Sunday afternoon G 64 event, which was brought about by a scheduling conflict. With many of the titles depending on the results of the season finale, racing was extremely tight. In the 50cc class, Cory Hormes scored his second-straight title, out-distancing Jake Johnson, his primary competition. Ken Coolbeth had the'125cc title wrapped up after the semis, as Roy Miller, the only other rider with a chance at the crown, failed to make the main event. Coolbeth then went out and easily defeated Paul Lynch by half a lap. In the 250cc Pro class, Burkholder had a nearly insurmountable points lead heading in, but he got a poor start in his semi and failed to make the main event, which had several people doing some mathematical figuring. Price had to win to retain his title, while Rodney Farris could score the championship with a second-place finish behind anyone other than Price. At the green light, Price gated second behind Scott Saunders, with Price's uncle Bob Sweeten in a perfect position to play the role of blocker. After a slow start, Farris got by Kevin Varnes in the early 55: 1. Cory Hormes (M-M); 2. jake johnson (Hon); 3. Gary Conklin (!tj); 4. Jimmy Owens (Hon); 5. Matt Hendrickson (Yam). 80: I.
