Shults EARL PARK, IN, ocr. 10 Jeff Mezos came over from Danville, Illinois, to top a field of Expert class riders at this tiny northwest Indiana town. The stadium trials event featured lots of logs and rocks as well as a few sections of man-made obstacles. Rain had been forecast, but decided to go elsewhere leaving a perfect trials day of temperatures in the mid-60s with lots of sun. Mezos is built like ablond-haired linebacker for a pro football team, but it was skill and a smooth ride on his Gas-Gas that saw him drop only 83 points en route to the win. Richard Gibbs was within breathing distance all day but couldn't close the gap. He ended up with 95 points. Section five took lots of points from Expert and Intermediate class riders. The section featured a series of logs about 38 to 40 inches in diameter, spaced just a shade over one bike length apart. When a rider cleared the first log, he had to be able to balance while getting set up for the next log. When one of the experts cleaned the section (which wasn't often), spectators would cheer or applaud. The Intermediate riders had less demanding lines through the sections and it showed on Tony Jacobs' score card. He tallied a mere 10 points for the day. One of the highlights of the day (and there were many) was Jim Zuroske who rode a 50cc Fantic to third place in the Intermediate class. His son rode a I25cc bike in the Youth class. Randy Throne dominated the Vintage class intended for dual shock machines of the 70s. Throne collected only 14 points while the second place rider, Chuck Fellin, checked in with 53 on his SWM. When Throne gets a modern trials bike, he will be a force to be reckoned with. High point trophy of the day went to Chris Zuroske who scored 126 points in the Youth class. Results EX: I. Love lassoes Stockton Scrambles wins By Deb George STOCKTON, CA, ocr. II Sam Love nabbed both the 250cc and 125cc C division wins in the second round of the AMA Northern California Championship Rough Scrambles Series at the Stockton Fairgrounds. In the 125cc C race, Allen Bacon took the holeshot, while some major bar-banging was going on behind him for second place. Love .... ~ ~ lo-t Q.) ,.0 S Q.) ;> Anthony Donarummo led Chris Scida (109), Chris Celli (615) and Brian Cook (323) in Bridgehampton MX's 125cc Novice class. grabbed hold of the position with Albert Goble and Jassen Smith right behind. It stayed that way for two laps, when Coble put the pressure on Love and Bacon, but went down in a righthander. Love took over the lead and Bacon fell back to second. Coble had fire in his eyes as he chal"ged to get back up to the front of the pack. On the next lap, Coble passed Evans and Smith through the back straightaway jumps. By the white-flag lap Coble was right on Love's back wheel. After waiting patiently for his favorite left-hand sweeper, Coble made his move on Love by taking the outside berm while Love took the tight inside line. Coble started his exit of the comer with a slight lead on Love, but his front end washed out and he went down again. Love rode on ahead to the win, while Smith ~ot by for second place. Coble recovered for third. Results VET A/B: I. Dale Hansen (Han); 2. Rick Luther (Yam); 5. Steve Hall (Yam). 125 C: I. Sam Love (Han); 2. Jassen Smith (Yam); 3. Albert Coble (Yam); 4. Jacobson jolts Lembo Lake ST By Ray Malley MODENA, NY, OCT. 17 Keith Jacobson provided some serious racing as he won the Open Expert class in the final short track of the season at Lembo Lake Park. Jay Skidmore led out of turn two with Ken Dahlin, Jacobson and KTM rider Jason Fletcher all in his shadow. It didn't take 10n~ for Jacobson to overtake Dahlin. He chose the high line going into tum three and blew by as they exited four. Fletcher was in hot pursuit of Jacobson, but his motor quit at the halfway point. With Fletcher out and Jacobson stretching his lead, - Dahlin, Skidmore and Justin Coolbeth continued to battle underneath a blanket throughout the remaining laps, with Skidmore a wheel ahead of Dahlin at the checkered flag for second place. The 250cc Expert final took its time getting off to a start, as a crash in tum one caused the red flag 10 come out, and Fletcher jumped the second start and was sent back to the penalty line. Finally a clean start allowed for some serious handlebar-banging action as Morgan Coolbeth elbowed his way out front wi~ Skidmore, Fletcher and Jacobson in tow. Bad luck continued to hang over Fletcher; just as he worked his way up to second behind Coolbeth, his exhaust pipe started to falloff. This slowed him downJ'ust enough to allow Skidmore by into secon place, but with two laps remaining, Fletcher was able to hold off a hard-char~ng Jacobson to finish in the money in thud place. Coolbeth won the race. Results 50 STK: I. John Weiss (Yam); 2. Adam Clark (Yam); ~. Patrick Mwphy (502). 50 MOD: I. Scott Morrison (Yam); 2. Ryan Wilson (Yam); 5. James Moroney (502); 4. Bushey blasts off at Sunrise By David A. Procida ADELANTO, CA, OCT. 18 Danny Bushey put his Pro-Circuit-backed Suzuki into the winners' circle with a pair of molO wins at Sunrise Cycle Park. In moto one the combined 250/500cc Beginner/Novice start saw the Kawasaki KX250 of Rick Elrod take the holeshot with Staab, Kenji Gauthier and the pack in tow. Bushey, who was the first Beginner, was running in fourth overall with Ray Harp, Darrel Hayes and Steve Smith in tow. Bushey, riding a new 1993 Suzuki RM250 was on the gas not letting the Novices get too far away. Behind him the battle was heating up as Hayes and Harp were pounding on each other for second-place supremacy. On lap three Hayes slipped by Harp for second only to have Harp make a repass on the very next lap. The two riders carried their battle into the late laps of the moto before Hayes began to fade and drop off the pace. Meanwhile, up front, Bushey took the checkered for the win ahead of Harp, Hayes and Smith. As the gate fell for moto two, there was a drag race to the first turn with Harp holding off Bushey, Hayes and Smith. Bushey made use of the big tabletop jump to pull alongside of Harp, and he powered by him. Once in the lead, there was no catching Bushey, and the battle, once gain, came down to ownership of the number-two slot. Harp was being pressured by Hayes now and the race was on. Harp's Kawasaki was able to power away from Hayes' Yamaha in the open area, but Hayes seemed to close back up in the ti~ht stuff. Lap after lap the two carried on like this, until Hayes started to fade late in the race. Taking the checkered for his second moto win was Bushey ahead of Harp, Hayes and Smith. Results PIW A: I. Scida scores at Bridgehampton MX ByJim and Carolyn Simpson BRIDGEHAMPTO ,NY, ocr. 17 Chris Scida used a final-lap charge to claim the overall win in the 125cc Novice class at Bridgehampton MX Park. Anthony Donarummo took the lead at the start of moto one. Scida and Anthony Gangone chased the leader through the woods and completed lap one in the same order. The leading trio started to pull away from the pack, while James Luke and Richard Agostinelli battled for fourth-place honors. Donarummo motored away with the moto win, as Scida scored second and Gangone remained in third place. Donarummo jumped into the lead as the gate dropped for moto two. Gan~ne chased the leader through woods, but In the back section it was Scida who took over the lead. Second-place Donarummo and Gangone held with the pace of the leading Scida. Donarummo made his move and repassed Scida, while Scida camped out on the rear fender of Donarummo. Michael Lequerique moved up to third place. Donarummo was holding his lead on the last lap. As he and Scida approached "Vinny's Double," Scida grabbed a handful of throttle and out-jumped Donarummo to take over the lead. Scida landed and stayed on the gas to narrowly win the moto and steal the overall win. Results f' S/SR: I. J';hn Sanuth (Hon); 2. John Didomenico (Yam); 5. Gary DiPietro (KTM); 4.
