RANDY HAWKINS Wins AMA Enduro, Redding, CA Sweetland sweet at Vulture Mine Hare Scrambles JAN HREHOR . 1st DUANE CONNER· 2nd, AMA Hare Scrambles, Kahoka,MO • By A.H. Tellier WICKENBURG, AZ, ocr II Team Green desert ace Garth Sweetland scored me overall and Open class wins at me ADM's 18th Annual Vulture Mine 100 desert race. The race feat1!red unseasonably warm weamer, which proved to be me downfall for Destry Abbott. The number-one plate holder was clicking off lap times around me IO-milelong rough, rocky course at a pace two miles per hour quicker man Sweetland, and seemed to be a shoo-in for me win. However, Abbott suffered from heat exhaustion and became ill, falling off his pace. Sweetland completed me six laps at a pace of nearly 34 mph for me win. Ken Kozlick followed in second place. Pat Prosser came home in third overall, edging out Mike Kozlick. Joe Prosser was the only Super Senior to complete five laps, and put away AI Forbes for the class win. Prosser was understandably exhausted at the finish. Troy Kalina withstood several challenges from Eddie Nordstrom and Mark Draper to top me Open Amateur class. In me Plus-30 Amateur class, Jim Roewer's spark arrestor came off, and he could not back up his win streak. Rules require a spark arrestor to be run at all times, so Roewer had to stop and make repairs. His pit stop took an agonizingly-long 15 minutes, and Hank LaPorte cruised ahead to the victory. Roewer still managed to work his way back up to fifm place. rREk.iVl "SO, THAT'S WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE WITHOUT HELMETS!" CROIX FALLS, WI, OCT. 4 Robbie Engstrom piloted his Tously Sports/ Bob's Cycle SupplylToroc-backed Honda to convincing wins in both motos of me Open A class during Moto City Raceway's final event of me season.. Engstrom nailed the holeshot in me first moLO. Once out front, he opened up a comfortable lead over me battle for second .between Chris Benze, Marty Clark, Scott 'Steinle and Bill Engstrom. Robbie Engstrom greeted the checkers first, while Benze held off a hard-charging Clark to garner second. Moto two was a carbon copy for Engstrom and Benzo. A strong third-place finish, along with a fourth place in moto one, was good enough to score third overall for Steinle. Engstrom continued his winning ways in the 250cc A class. At the start of the moto one, Engstrom again pulled another good start and rode flawlessly to score the win going away. Jason Kemple recovered from a bad start and charged throu~h the pack to take second from Chad Wineckl on lap two. Pospisil gated sixth and worked his way past Jason Colbert and Kyle Love for fourth. As moto two got underway, it looked like Lanother Engstrom runaway, but as the pack lrounded the first turn and entered the whoop section, Engstrom was nowhere to be found. tColbert ran out front ahead of Winecke, ,Pospisil, Rob Bergstrom and Steve Klar, but
