Before his gas stop with two laps Hrehor was holding a lead of approximately 50 seconds on Plessinger, Eriksson and a recovered Summers, all of whom were within a few bike lengths of one another. Conner was two minutes back and engaged in a duel for fifth with fellow Kawasaki rider Kurt Hough, a battle Conner would ultirnatelywin. On the last lap the jockeying for position by Hrehor's pursuers saw Summers leap-frog into second pqsition and close to within 10 seconds of the Czech at the finish. Plessinger was hot on Summers' heels but was a bike length shy at the checkered flag. Just a few more lengths back rode Eriksson. "The shock started packing on me at the end," said Plessinger of his inability to hold off Summers on the dramatic final lap. "We tried to work on it this week so that it wouldn't fade; now I guess we got something else to work on." With two races to go in the series (Missouri and Arizona) Plessinger leads Summers by eight points. A rider's best eight finishes in the lO-race series count towards the overall title, and with two DNF's apiece, neither Plessinger or Summers can afford another pointless day. "1'11 be ready for the last two," said Summers, who has suffered with a wrist injury since winning the Blackwater 100 in June. "My wrist feels better and my stamina is back, and I feel like all of the pressure is on Scott (Plessinger) right now. We are going to have some great racing this fall." ~ Results O/A; 1.
