Little took command over Forinash, and Demaria also slipped by and Demaria and Liltle began to pull away from the rest of the field. The rider who crossed the finish line first would take the overall, and both of them knew it. The next six laps were tense, as Demaria and Little were never more than a bike length aparl. Edwards, Rand dash at Calhoun Supercross By Gary Crider 42 CALHOUN, GA, AUG. 29 Texan Jason Edwards and Ohioan Greg Rand came aWllY with two moto wins each in fierce 125 and 250cc Pro racing at the grand opening of Calhoun Supercross, while Tennessee's Nalhan Ramsey earned the only double-class honor of the night, winning all four motos in 125 and 250cc B action. The track, under new ownership, has undergone a complete rebuilding under the direction of Ray Padgett. The new course features a peristyle turn, tunnel jump and improved drainage. Well over 200 entrants, representing nine states, were on hand for the Layton Suzuki/Motions/Pizza Box/Red Carpet Inn-sponsored event. Rand put his Fox/Shoei/Pro-Circuitl Scott/PJ-l/loo%/Dunlop-backed Suzuki out front to stay at the start of the opening 125cc Pro moto, while Edwards got a mediocre start. Edwards eventually moved his Kawasaki into third to challenge Honda pilot Sean Dukes. But Dukes held on for runner-up honors despite a last-lap bid by Edwards. Moto two saw AnswerlBell/Works Connection/Dunlop/Silkolene-backed Edwards take his lead at the start, while Rand got away in sixth spot. By the fourth lap, Rand had taken over third. During the next two l~, he passed both Dukes and Edwards to take the lead. Under intense pressure from Edwards, Rand soon went down in a turn and had to settle for a third-place finish. Edwards took the moto win and the overall, nipping Dukes' 2-2 and Rand's 1-3. A pile-up in turn two at the start of the first 250cc Pro molO put Rand into the DNF column and set Dukes back lO a 10th place finish, while Edwards styled his way to victory by a huge margin over runner-up Brandon Smith. Rand came back with a holeshot in moto two and quickly opened up a good lead. Edwards tried to close the gap but crashed hard on a slick downhill and finished far back, while Rand held for the win. Brandon Smith earned the overall with 2-4 finishes. The l25cc B contest featured an all-night three-way brawl involving Nathan Ramsey, Bryan Gilliam and Anthony Pocorobba. Answer/Mark IVISilkolene/Scou-backed Ramsey squeaked to the first moto win, while Pocorobba made a last-lap pass to finish second over Gilliam. The final lap of moto two saw Gilliam holding the point position with Pocorobba and Ramsey breathing down his neck. With less than a half-lap remaining, Ramsey surged to the front to win with a perfect score over Gilliam and Pocorrobba. "I just tried to pull up real close on the last lap," said Ramsey. "Then I went inside after the doubles and somehow found some traction!" Ramsey was perfect again in the 250cc B contest over Brad Simpson, while Pocorobba came back to win the Schoolboy division. Mason Williams won the Junior Mini contest after sharing moto wins with runnerup Matt Walker, while Christopher Bailey topped the Senior Mini class. Rick Lindell was the 30 Plus class winner over 1992 AMA Plus 30 B Champion Michael Henderson. Results PIW: 1. Adam Laskowski (Yam); 2. Josh Crider (Yam); 3. Cody Bums (Yam); 4.
