Sober Sunday, October 4, 1992 SAN BERNARDINO, CA, SEPT. 2 National Speedway Champion Mike Faria showed up for his normal Wednesday of racing at Glen Helen Speedway and went away with six consecutive wins and a sweep of the night. With fellow RusseJ) Racing teammate Scott Brant out early with an aggravation of last week's ankle injury, Faria . took to the heavy outside dirt' and left little doubt as to who was the favorite to win his third straight U.S. National title. In the Scratch main Faria got the start out of lane two, leading lane-three starter Bobby Schwartz and outside rider Chris Manchester into the first set of turns and down the back straight. Lucero took over third from Manchester, as the talented youngster got bogged down in the heavy muck in turn three. Meanwhile, Schwartz dogged Faria but could not find the line to reel him in. After three laps Faria moved out to a comfortable margin and wheelied the straights, much to the delight of the 2339 spectators. Schwartz held Lucero back to claim second place. In the Handicap main, Faria started from the 60 yard line, while his nearest competitors, John Aden and Charlie Venegas were stationed on the 40. Gary Ackroyd, Ronnie Kemp and Rob Ball lined up across the 30, 20 yards behind Greg Miller and Erich "Fertschneider. Low yarders Miller and Fertschneider set the early pace, while Faria moved up quickly behind the pack looking for a line to attach with. The champ made short work of the field, e1iminatig one rider the first two laps and then stepping up the pace, finishing off the entire contingent by midway of lap six. Ackroyd got around the low yardage guys early and maintained a steady line to claim second place. Venegas took third place ahead of Kemp and Aden in that order. Louis Trotechard continued to destroy all comers in the Support main events, winning two of the last three mains. Open to Street Legal Dual Sport Bikes Only. Spark Arrestor Required. Leach licks Albany Supercross Roll Charts provided. Bring your roll chart holder. Navigation by mileage. Map not to 8C!l1e By Don Schneider ALBANY, OR, AUG. 30 Ryan Leach nailed down the overall win in the 250cc Intermediate class at the final round of the Yokohama Western States Nationals held at Albany Supercross. In moto one, Leach and Monty Harris led into turn one. Leach wrestled away the lead, with Harris, Ryan Hagemann, Jeremy Harwood and John Williams following. Hagemann hauled by Harris in a sand section on lap two for second. " Up front, Leach was turning in lap times equal to the 125 and 250cc Pros and was putting about three seconds a lap on the field. The order remained the same up to the final lap, when Harwood displaced Harris for third. At the checkers, Leach earned a plus-20-second win over Hagemann. Moto two saw Harris nail a perfect gate. Rounding turn three he had Hagemann, Leach, Harwood and Eric Rogers in tow. Leach followed Hagemann for two laps before he muscled his way by for second. On lap three, Harris felt the pressure of Leach as they headed through the whoops. Harris clipped the side of a nasty rut and took a hard {all, allowing Leach into the front spot. Leach twisted the throttle to the stops, setting a blistering pace that Hagemann couldn't match. Leach scored the win for first overall, with Hagemann netting second place. In moto one of the I 25cc Junior class, Zeb Tivnan followed Doug McKuhn for one complete circuit before McKuhn fell. Tivnan jetted by the downed rider for the lead, while Aaron Crawford, Kenny Bellmore, Kirk Ridgley and Gary Terlecki also passed McKuhn. Bellmore and Terlecki rode hard for the next two laps and both of them freight-trained by Crawford by midmoto. Up front, Tivnan was long-gone, earning the easy win over Bellmore. ENTRIES ARE LIMITED!
